Re: Modern Warfare 2
I know this doesn't affect those of you getting MW2 on console, but those of you who had hopes for it on PC....
Source
Lowlights from the BestBuy Dev chat with IW regarding MW2:
* Dedicated server questions were greeted by being escorted out of the chat.
* Max players for all versions is 9v9. Yes, I said 9v9.
* No record feature in MW2 for PC.
* No lean in the PC version (Mackey-IW: The game is not balanced for lean.)
* PC Game is not yet finished*
*probably alludes to the fact that there will be future patches given reports that the PC SKU has already shipped.
My fave Q&A:
Laugh
Is there a console in the PC version of the game, so we can change our field of view from the xbox's default 65 FOV to 80 also can we tweaks the weapon damage for each gun, removes perks, graphical debris, breathing sway, also thru console like we where able to before or is this all gone?
Vince-IW
We would like you to play the game the way we designed and balanced it.
There *was* a forum where all folks who coudn't get into the chat hung out - but it has been removed...sadly, it contained quite a few amusing anecdotes.
However...thanks to LaGgY_42o for the chat log: http://paste2.org/p/497887 and scomel99 from our forums for the heads up.
Buster from TheCompanyHub has the PC questions summarized in his forums: TCH forums
Thanks to Jerfy, CrazyCanuck for the heads-up on the goings on inside the chat.
Snattch from Pandemic had this to say on Twitter: "No leaning, no /record feature, no dedicated servers, no mod tools, no game?"
Thanks to KevinD' for this insight:

...oh and on another note, from BFBC2's forums:

Re: Modern Warfare 2
The only thing that annoys me out of that is no lean
And the fact they said the PC game isn't finished yet kinda scares me...

Re: Modern Warfare 2
This from a guy who worked on every IW CoD game since the original:
Actually, we took dedicated servers for granted and matchmaking was unnecessary except in the shittiest of arcade shooters.
The gimmicks keep piling up.
Another gimmick.
No, it's not a joke.
A great non-answer:
Another one:
Fuck you guys.
Essentially, we designed the game by pretending to be 12 years old.
Mackey-IW wrote:PC has no common provider of matchmaking like on xbox360, so to have match making on the PC we had to create IW.Net, kind of similar to the match making networks created for RTS games on PC. This was not a trivial undertaking, although it's understandable that these days consumers may take match match making for granted.

Mackey-IW wrote:3rd person is limited to a few playlists, and it's always enabled for all players when you're in such a playlist. It's a lot of fun when you want some variety. The look is similar to spectating a game. Note that not all the attachments and perks are as useful in 3rd person.
Another gimmick.
Futurefighter wrote:Im kind of skeptical on the use of sentry guns in the MP. Can you explain them and tell us how you plan to balance them out?
No, it's not a joke.
A great non-answer:
DudezTY: Since we can not kick people in ranked matches, how will we stop hackers who get past VAC?
Mackey-IW: Our goal is to ban hackers from the game.
Another one:
Torinir: How does IWNet plan to address serious griefing, such as intentional teamkilling, voice/chat spamming, and other unwanted behaviours in public matchmade games? This includes organized griefing from groups like myg0t.
Mackey-IW: You can easily mute players, and hardcore (friendly fire enabled ) SD has "ricochet" which makes you hurt yourself instead.
Fuck you guys.
TRU-Jennifer: What are the current steps being taken in regard to active blocking measures that some major ISPs have taken regarding Peer 2 Peer connections, such as what Comcast does?
Mackey-IW: Only players capable of hosting will be host.
Essentially, we designed the game by pretending to be 12 years old.
Ryan-IW: The inspiration behind so many inclusions to MW2's MP was basically the fun factor. We'll look at something we did in the past and say "Wouldn't it be fun if we *insert blank here*".

Re: Modern Warfare 2
Yea, but the PC version not even technically being finished AND being released at in inflated price... Sorry, shows EXACTLY how little IW/Activision cares about the PC community for their Call of Duty franchise, even though it was us who propelled them to gaming hall of fame back with CoD1, UO, and CoD2.

it will be good on some parts, like the SP looks pretty sick tbh, but I'm still sketchy on the MP, I mean the whole matchmaking thing doesnt really go well with PC users, I mean if you join a host thats a total douche, then whats the point? I probably play MP rank all the way up then go back to cod4....my two cents
